Tool for Preventing the Degradation of Old Parisian Buildings – 2010 Report

Tool for Preventing the Degradation of Old Parisian Buildings

In 2008 a method was developed for identifying private buildings in danger of becoming run down. A series of indicators were selected and crossed, leading to the drawing up of a list of buildings. Based on this list over a hundred field surveys  were carried out. They have allowed risk diagnosis suggested by statistical analysis  to be validated, or in some cases not to be validated.

In 2010 the exercise was repeated, based on 2009 data. It allowed the list of buildings in danger of deterioration to be updated but also took into account the feedback from the field for the method to be improved.
235 Parisian buildings were identified in this way. They were private, residential buildings with concurrently at least three types of difficulty (in terms of construction, maintenance, management or occupation) and were in danger of becoming run down. The characteristics of these buildings appeared to justify particular surveillance by council departments, although their state  was not necessarily very problematic.

This exercise is part of a prospective operation of monitoring old buildings and preventing their deterioration The challenge is to direct, through a number  of statistical presumptions, the verification of properties by technical units, thus favouring administrative intervention as early as possible. This procedure could also, avoid new buildings from  becoming run down.
