How daily deaths have evolved in Greater Paris - Grand Paris - 2019-2020 comparison

Between 2nd March and 3rd May 2020, 24,007 Ile-de-France inhabitants died, that is an increase of +88% compared with the same period in 2019. The Department which registered the highest number of deaths was Seine-Saint-Denis, followed by Hauts-de-Seine.

Exceptionally, Insee published data on daily deaths and those in each Department. Monitoring this data and comparing it with that registered on the same dates in previous years has made it possible to measure the evolution of the epidemic and its impact in different areas.  
 
Produced from published information, this note specifies the elements relevant to departments within the inner ring of suburbs -La Petite Couronne- and gives details of the age, sex and place of death. The analysed data are held by the Departments’ of the deceased person’s place of residence.

  • Seine-Saint-Denis is the Ile-de-France Department that registered the highest number of deaths compared with 2019, followed by Hauts-de-Seine
  • Today, the number of deaths has significantly lowered in Ile-de-France for the third consecutive week.  
  • The rise is the number of deaths was greater the higher the age group.
  • There was high excess mortality rates in institutions for the elderly.
