Young people find themselves in diverse situations when it comes to housing conditions, employment and using facilities.

In the Grand Paris Metropolis, almost two-thirds (65%) of young people aged between 16 and 25 are pupils or students while 22% have jobs and 13% are “neither employed, nor studying, nor training”.

A typology of young people has been developed in order to characterise the different neighbourhoods of the Grand Paris Metropolis based on the characteristics of the young people living there. Each neighbourhood is given a colour when the corresponding profile is over-represented in relation to the metropolitan average. This does not mean that this profile is the majority but that the difference in comparison to the Grand Paris average is the greatest.

It shows that young pupils or students living with their parents are overrepresented in most neighbourhoods in areas in the west of Grand Paris: Paris Ouest La Défense, Grand Paris Seine Ouest, Vallée Sud Grand Paris and in Paris. Students living independently are more represented in neighbourhoods where there are major university campuses: the Latin Quarter in Paris, in the north of the metropolis, in Bobigny and also in Cachan. Young, independent, working people are overrepresented in Paris and certain neighbourhoods in the western and northern areas of the Metropolis.

Young people who are less often in employment and find it more difficult to live independently from the family home are more overrepresented in municipalities in the north-east of the Metropolis: Paris Terres d’Envol, Est Ensemble and Grand Paris Grand Est.
