Urban woods: expert views on forest management

As part of the International Day of Forests 2024, organized by the National Forestry Office at the Climate Academy, a conference is being held around the forest management of urban woods. Patricia Pelloux, deputy director of Apur, will speak on the publication “Les bois de Boulogne et de Vincennes” published in 2020.

Since 1852, the State has donated the woods of Vincennes and Boulogne to the City of Paris; it must maintain them and preserve their vocation as public walks in perpetuity. However, interventions on arboreal heritage are strongly questioned. Should we intervene on forest heritage in dense urban areas? What methods should we implement to respect the fauna and flora of these spaces?

This conference aims to share different expert points of view.

Speakers:

  • Aurélia Chavanne: forestry engineer at the City of Paris, wrote the arboricultural management plan for the Bois de Vincennes.
  • Patricia Pelloux: deputy director of the Paris Urban Planning Agency, engineer-urban planner, led the study "The woods of Boulogne and Vincennes - 1,840 hectares of nature to revisit", published in 2020.
  • Dominique Pirio: first female logger in France, vice-president of a regional natural park, president of the Clim'Actions association, member of the FNE forest management board.

Moderator:

  • Laurence Duffort, president of the CAUE of Paris
